April 10, 2013 - Concise Beam version 4.59 is now available for download

YOUR COMMERCIAL LICENSE MUST BE CURRENT UP TO THE END OF APRIL 2013 AT THE EARLIEST TO BE ABLE TO USE THIS RELEASE. Users evaluating this new release will be able to use this version for the remainder of their 30 day evaluation period. If your license has expire please contact us about how to bring your license up to date in order to use this latest release and to receive technical support. You do not need to install any previous versions of Concise Beam before installing this latest release.

Version 4.59 includes the following changes;

  • Added a new facility to calculate the addition shear strength provided by filling cores in a hollowcore plank. Concise Beam can now estimate the extent of fill required for the required shear strength of hollowcore planks.
  • Added a new dialog to specify the hollowcore fill parameters and the actual extent of the fill in the cores. The weight of this fill is also accounted for in the load analysis.
  • Added an option to allow Concise Beam to calculate the long-term deflection multipliers for prestressed beams based on the actual beam characteristics. You still have the option to use the predefined multipliers recommended by PCI or to supply your own multipliers.
  • Added a new option to allow Concise Beam to allow slipped strand to carry load. This option affects the calculation of the flexural strength within the development length of a partial-length strand and is now recommended by PCI (I currently have doubts about this approach).
  • The About Concise Beam dialog now shows program updating information. The program will now tell you if a new version is available for download.
  • Implemented active switches for applied loads, long. rebar, and strand groups. These switches allow you to turn load, bar or strands groups off without having to delete them.
  • Implemented the alternate method (non CSA code) for calculating web shear strength based on principle tensile stress. This can lead to a higher shear strength near the ends of a beam.
  • Some codes (e.g. ACI 318) allow the designer to choose the compression strut angle to be used to optimize the design of torsion steel. Concise Beam now allows the user to specify this angle in the Torsion Parameters dialog.
  • Concise Beam now allows the user to choose the font used for text reports on screen and in print.
  • Added a font selection dialogs in the View menu for print and screen fonts in text reports.
  • Add additional verification problems for PCI 7th.
  • Added Section Type field to Beam Definition dialog.
  • Made printed headers/footers in text reports and graphs more consistent.
  • Added numeric keypad numbers 9 & 3 to controls that scroll through graphs. This allows you to use PgUp and PgDn without having to have the Num Lock key on.
  • Separated the torsion report from the shear report.
  • Now show the torsion/shear interaction stresses in the Torison Report.
  • The torsion steel reports now reports the total long. torsion steel required and allowable reduction in the compression zone. The previous method of applying the reduction to the compression side of the section did work for all sections.
  • Reformatted the stress reports.
  • Reformatted the shear and torsion reports.
  • Better defined the tensile stress limits in the stress reports.
  • Revised the Horizontal Shear - Moment Region report to give more detail.
  • Revised many reports to reduce width in print (based on Lucida Console 7 pt).
  • Adjusted zooming and panning rates in the section editor.
  • Corrected Grid Snap dialog.
  • Corrected minimum envelope for the load analysis. Changed shear and moment design to consider only + or - values (not just envelope).
  • Corrected the section editor to prevent crashes on new sections and zooming in too much.
  • Corrected the check for tension in the calculation of the development length multiplier for debonding.
  • Corrected the loss percent summary with partial length strand.
  • Corrected bug when deleting a folder in a library file.
  • A new file format has been created for the problem files to accommodate additional data used by the program. It still uses the *.con extension but cannot be read by versions of Concise Beam prior to version 4.59. Version 4.59 will read files created by Concise Beam version 3.x and all prior versions of Concise Beam 4.x. Files will now be saved in the new file format.
